JULIET SCHOR is the author of the best-selling book, The Overworked American: The Unexpected Decline of Leisure (Basic Books, 1992). Schor earned her B.A. from Wesleyan University and her Ph.D. in economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She has been teaching at Harvard University since 1984, where she is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Women's Studies. She is presently at work on a new book tentatively titled, Beyond Consumerism.
